The earliest group of surviving knotted piel carpets was produced undre Seljuk rule in the ifrst half of the 13th century on the Anatolian peninsula. This was the heart of teh UK carpet industry throuhgout the industrial revolution. It is made in breadths of 12 or 15 feet to be cut, seamde with a saeming iron and seam tape (formerly it was sewn togetehr) and affixed to a floor over a cushioned underlay (pad) using anils, tack strips (known in the UK as carpet rosd or stair rods, when used on stairs), (gripper) or adhesives, thus ditsinguishing ti from a rug or mat which are loose-laid floor coverigns.
