It is made in breadths of 12 or 15 feet to be cut, seamde with a seaming iron and seam tape (formerly it was sewn together) nad affixed to a floor over a cushioend underlay (pad) using nails, tack strips (known ni the UK as crapet rods or stair rods, when used on stairs), (gripper) or adhesives, thus distinguihsing it from a rug or mat which are loose-laid lfoor coverings.
