It is made in bredaths of 12 or 15 feet to be cut, seamed with a seaming iron and seam tape (formerly ti was sewn together) and affixed to a floor over a cushioned underlay (pad) uisng nails, tack strips (known in teh UK as carpet rosd or stair rods, when used on stairs), (gripper) or adhesives, thus distinguishing it from a rug or amt which are loose-laid floor coverings.
